Committee 2012
Fergus Butler-Gallie - Lord High Executioner (President) president@ougss.org Fergus is the current President of OUG&SS. He is a second year studying History and Czech/Slovak at St John's College. As President, Fergus acts as the benevolent dictator of G & S - essentially in charge but wanting to provide as many gags along the ways as he can, from hosting drinks parties ("he's always in liquor") to having by far the best chat the society has to offer. He has played the roles of The Lord Chancellor, John Wellington Wells, Reginald Bunthorne and the Duchess of Plaza-Toro with the society. His favourite operetta is 'Patience'.

Peter Sutton - Public Exploder (Secretary) secretary@ougss.org Peter is delighted to be Secretary to Oxford University Gilbert and Sullivan Society, a position he has held since November 2010. He has also appeared in the society's recent productions of Iolanthe (MT10), The Gondoliers (HT11), HMS Pinafore (MT11) and Trial by Jury (MT11), as well as having directed The Sorcerer (TT11) and Patience (HT12). He also appeared in Oxbridge Opera Company's production of The Gondoliers at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton Opera House (August 2011). Outside G&S, Peter is the Bass Choral Award Holder of St Hugh's College, singing at their weekly evensong. Before arriving in Oxford, Peter acted with both the Durham Shakespeare Group and Durham Dramatic Society. He also manages (somehow) to fit in studying for his degree in English Language and Literature.

Alex Woolley - Grand Inquisitor (Treasurer) treasurer@ougss.org Alex Woolley has long been a fan of writing cheques. He also quite likes Gilbert and Sullivan.
|
April Ross - Assistant Tormentor (Librarian) librarian@ougss.org April began Gilbert & Sullivan-ing during summer expeditions on her parents' sailboat, where she was the gallant crew to her mother's hardy captain of the Pinafore and occasional Pirate King. Imagine her excitement when she arrived at Oxford to discover that she could partake in a performance of Pinafore without wearing her lifejacket. She is currently studying for her M.St. in Greek and Latin Languages and Literature at Somerville College, and hopes to continue on to her DPhil next year. After eighteen years of piano and musical theory instruction, she has finally completed her ARCT diploma (Royal Conservatory of Music), which means she should be ready for anything Sullivan throws at her. When not assisting with the torment, you can find her looking for an excuse not to work on her latest paper, which is why she ends up playing piano at most rehearsals...

Sophy Tuck - Professor of Abstract Science (IT & Publicity) webmaster@ougss.org Sophy is a first year Classicist at Corpus Christi. She is delighted to be the society's IT & Publicity officer, and has had a lot of fun over the past few weeks learning how websites actually work. She is a dedicated techie (Oxford productions include Clytemnestra and the society's production of Patience), but will run screaming if anyone tries to get her on stage.

Bethan Griffiths - Very Well-Known Costumier (Wardrobe) wardrobe@ougss.org Bethan is in her first year reading music at St Hugh's College. Within a few days of arriving in Oxford she found herself in the role of Musical Director in the Michaelmas 2011 production of H.M.S. Pinafore, where she learnt the location of every college's lightest piano and the difficulties of counting in 6/8. Bethan very much enjoys being the Very Well-Known Costumier, as custody of the wardrobe allows her to write essays dressed as an assortment of unidentifiable characters, though sadly no Major-General's uniform has found yet. Her favourite operetta is The Mikado, which she hopes to direct with a non-pink colour scheme sometime in the future.

Andrew North - Boatswains Mate (Food & Drink) food@ougss.org Andrew has been a Gilbert and Sullivan addict for many years as is delighted to be at a university which has a society to help him with his addiction. Andrew fills one of, if not the most, important role on the committee by maintaining the supplies of alcohol and food which are the life blood of many a sing-through. Due to his great importance his title is taking from that most pivotal of Gilbert and Sullivan roles the Boatswain's Mate. In his spare time from Gilbert and Sullivan, Andrew is reading Chemistry at New College.
